THE PROCESS

DESIGN

It always starts off as a drawing or sketch of some sort. Once I have an idea of what my project is going to look like I fine tune it on the computer making sure my measurements are correct. From here I print my final design on some thick copy paper to make patterns that I can place on my leather and trace out each piece.

SELECTION

This is where the fun comes in. It is now time to pick out a piece of leather that is going to complement my design. Leather comes in so many different colors and thicknesses that it can take some time to find that perfect piece. The leather I work with is REAL leather and REAL leather will have marks, branding, and scratches just from the animal wear and tear during their lifetime. The character of each piece is something you can't make from scratch. It took years for this leather to look this good, and the marks and scratches you'll put on your leather piece will only add to the overall beauty as time goes by. Embrace the imperfections.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

I have a curse, what ever I make, it must be perfect. With that said, it takes me longer than the average craftsman to finish a piece. This is true in my leather work but also in all my other endeavors that I pursue. I call it a curse like it is something bad, but I'm very glad I have it. It will make some things more difficult to complete, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
